PRESS RELEASE

NEW, LIGHTWEIGHT 4-STROKES ENHANCE HONDA'S LINE
November 2002

With a commitment to continuous product innovation, the leading manufacturer of 4-stroke outboard engines has added more models to its outstanding lineup. Honda Marine now offers the new BF15/20 and the BFP15/20 Power Thrust, the first outboards to weigh less than most 9.9-hp motors currently on the market.

The BF15/20, with its long-stroke design and class-leading 350 cc (21.4 ci) displacement, weighs a mere 101 pounds and is suited for a wide variety of applications. It's ideal for small fishing boats and inflatable tenders. The Power Thrust models utilize a high-thrust propeller design, making them perfect as kickers for pontoon and sailboats. An Engine Alert System monitors over-rev, overheat and low oil pressure warnings, and contributes to the reliability and performance that all Honda products are known for. A 12-amp, high-output alternator, the largest in its class, maintains battery charge and keeps electronics operating even at trolling speeds.

To achieve the lowest vibration levels in their class, the BF15/20 and BFP15/20 utilize Honda's proprietary, anti-vibration pendulum mount system, which ensures vibration is absorbed throughout the entire operating range. For easier tilt-up, models are available with power tilt. Along with Honda's 4-front corrosion protection, freshwater flushing provides long-term saltwater endurance.

New, three-stage carburetion, coupled with the programmed ignition system (PGM-IG), delivers smooth acceleration and excellent fuel economy. The auto-start enrichment system optimizes the fuel/air mixture for effortless starts and quick warm-ups. In addition to PGM-IG, the easy-pull decompression system reduces the amount of pulling power necessary to start the manual engines by as much as 33%. Another outstanding feature of these compact dynamos is reverse exhaust relief. Vents above the cavitation plate channel exhaust when backing down, eliminating cavitation normally created when exhaust is relieved through the prop. This means the prop runs in "clean" water and provides more thrust in reverse.

Recognized as the leader in 4-stroke outboard technology, Honda has been producing these motors for more than 37 years. All of the engines already meet EPA emissions regulations for the year 2006, and many also meet the more stringent CARB standards for 2008. Models are available from 2 to 225 hp.

Suggested retail price of the Honda BF15/20 4-stroke outboard starts at $3,070 MSRP. The BFP15/20 (power thrust models) start at $3,355 MSRP.
